Images by Valerie Batchelder - The transformation of an empty lot into a vibrant community garden continued this past Sunday at the Richmond District Neighborhood Center! Nearly 60 Burke's volunteers of all ages worked tirelessly to install seven raised planting beds to create a terraced gardening area. The team also cleared the eastern portion of the lot for a future Nature Discovery Trail. A very special thank you to the volunteers as well as Travis General Contractors and Golden State Lumber for donating their time, materials and expertise. Charles Higgins, Executive Director of RDNC, happily reported that the support that the Burke's Gives Back program has generated has just been matched: RDNC will soon receive funding for a full irrigation system and a brand new tool shed! The garden will be complete when Burke's volunteers return on May 18, final Weekend Workday of the year, to plant the garden.
